I am a born again believer in Jesus Christ, and I use medical Cannabis for severe chronic pain. It is my desire to evaluate any references in scripture to better be able to explain my pro-medical Cannabis stance. In fact, I’m working on an entire “Cannabis Apologetic” in hopes that it furthers this discussion. My pastor is dead set against any Cannabis use, and I foresee a long discussion with him on this topic, as I see the rampant prescribing and taking of opiates as highly immoral! One of my main arguments as to the morality of Cannabis over opiates is found in 1 Corinthians 6:12. “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be dominated by anything.” (ESV) Anyone who has ever taken opioids for any length of time can tell you that these drugs WILL dominate you! Cannabis on the other hand, cannot. So which is more immoral? To use drugs that I know will eventually come to dominate my life, or use one that can never dominate my life. As I said, I use Cannabis for severe chronic pain, but on those occasional days when the pain is tolerable, I don’t use Cannabis at all. But, if I were using opiates to control my pain, pain or no pain, my body will still demand the opioid because of the addiction factor that comes with it. I’m open to any and all criticism, correction, etc. on this subject or in my rationale. In fact, I welcome it. Only through discourse like this will we finally arrive at the answer. Thank you.
